Moritz Jekat
Moritz Jekat (b. 1987, Herdecke) is a Berlin-based visual artist whose hybrid practice spans video, CGI, installation, and sculpture. With a background in Commercial Economy (B.A., 2010), they later earned a B.A. in Communication Design from FH Potsdam (2018) and an M.A. in Photography from ECAL Lausanne (2023, with distinction). Since 2024, Jekat has been a Meisterschüler in the class Artistic Acting and Research with Prof. Christin Lahr at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig.
Jekat’s practice explores affective infrastructures, digital kinship, and speculative modes of togetherness. Often developed in collaborative constellations, their projects draw on game engines, in-game videography, and networked writing processes to create immersive video installations and sculptural environments. Works such as ReKin (2022–23), Crimes of Carelessness (2024), and Wetlands of Pharmacology (2023–25) investigate themes of collective memory, empathy, and posthuman subjectivities.
Their projects have been presented at Centre de la photographie Genève, Künstler*innenhaus Dortmund, Kasseler DokFest, Villa Merkel, Villa Heike Berlin, and DA Z – Digital Arts Zurich (Digital Video Award 2024), among others. Jekat has also shared their research in talks at Geneva International Film Festival and Venice Immersive – La Biennale di Venezia.
